Not so safe June 24, 2010 maltaf@lycos.com This is my second wall bracket purchased from Amazon sellers in two years. The first looked great, worked great until it suddenly broke one day and nearly sending the TV tragically to the floor only to be saved by a cable which entangled itself with the TV plate and the remainder of the bracket .. lucky! it broke from its weekest point, a PLASTIC part on the swivel mechanism. That wall bracket was not this particular model but similar in design, luckily that product is no longer sold on Amazon.
When I returned to Amazon to look for a replacement I tried my best to get a better bracket, I looked through the reviews and finally decided on this product. On receiving it I examined it immediately for any plastic parts to avoid the mistake I made before. No plastic parts .. good. The rest of the framework looked sturdy enough, though not the best of materials, an aluminium alloy type, this is soft and lighter than steel .. not so great but seemed adequate. Though it did not seem as robust as my previous steel frame I continued to install it to the wall anyway. When I came to install the TV back plate, it turned out that I needed a VISA 200 plate (large size for my 26" TV) which was also supplied, which in itself is not an issue but how this plate connects to the rest of the wall hanging mechanism however is an issue .. a big issue. The large TV backplate is then required to be connected to another small plate which has a hook type shape and this is finnally hung & connected to the wall bracket mechanism and held in place by one small screw.
After careful examination it transpires that the entire weight of the TV is firstly held by the large Visa 200 plate (not problem here) then in turn by the smaller plate, the shocking thing is that the join between these two plates is simply the treads of four 2-3 mm long small screws which keep the two pates locked together .. wow just 4 small screw threads holding the weight of the entire TV ! This is the weakest point of the whole mechanism and unlikey to last any longer than my previous purchase. Unfortunately by the time I had installed it to the wall and finally the TV to it, I had managed to scratch it and distroyed the packaging and felt obliged to keep it rather than send it back .. a big mistake. I am now in fear that this will not last even as long as my previous wall bracket.
I would not recommend anyone who has a need for the larger backplate to buy this wall bracket. I also have reservations how good it is at holding the smaller TVs over a length of time 1-3 years.
From both experiences I would be now be happy to pay more for a good solid steel bracket with good connection points. It is not worth buying these cheaper products as they will cost you more in the long term. There is a very good reason why some similar brackets are over twice the price of this and similar products, the quality of the materials and engineering is much much better with the more expensive products you will get peace of mind because they are more likely to last longer than you TV unlike these cheaper products. Another issue is that it does not hold the TV perfectly level, it is lopsided
It has taken me two attempts to work this out unfortunately. I will now be spending more money to replace this product. Please don't make the same mistake.
Quality TV Bracket June 2, 2010 Peter Barnard (Kent UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you're looking for a quality TV bracket this is the one to get, I was amazed by the quality, heavy duty construction and easy to assemble, all this and a great price, had a look at the ones in Argos but was put off by the cost, I'm glad I went for this one, just one thing if you're fixing it to a breeze block wall make sure you get some longer screws than the ones supplied, should be OK for a brick wall though
Works great with my 24" monitor May 24, 2010 M. Hashim (London, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
From receiving this wall mount to having the monitor in the wall it took me roughly 15 minutes, and the monitor looks perfect and my desk looks far cleaner than it used to. It holds my ASUS 24" monitor with absolutely no issue. You have to use a spirit level to make sure you get the mount perfectly straight, as a 1mm mistake when drilling the holes in the wall can make the whole monitor askew when it is all set up. The monitor can, when on the mount, be tilted, panned, and pointed to the left or right at a complete 90 degree angle, allowing for almost any viewing angle you want. This mount represents great quality and value.
The business! May 18, 2010 Ama Zone (West Mids) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Excellent product - very sturdy. Used for PC monitor - creates the space on my desk that I wanted. Brilliant! Instructions nice and clear, too.
Not what I expected May 12, 2010 MR COMEDY (ENGLAND) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Purchased this bracket as it seemed to to look sturdy and was at reasonable price.I have put up several similar brackets to this in our homes down the years with no problems at all. I was mounting a 32" LG LCD. I used longer bolts than the ones supplied into a brick wall . It was approx 5 feet from the floor. Unfortunately despite following the spartan supplied instructions the tv sagged on one side no matter what adjustments I tried to make! The Vesa bracket mounts by two clips which slot into the bracket on the swivel arm. There is a sort of lip that the Vesa slots onto and there is a hole that looks like it should have some kind of bolt go through possibly with a wing nut. This was not included with the fittings. I'm sure the bracket would be fine for smaller tv's but I was certainly NOT confident that it could safely support my 32" LG as the wall plate was pulling somewhat. I abandoned the project and have housed the tv on a heavy purpose made glass unit. I would have returned the bracket but for the fact it ended up getting scratched with the multiple attempts to mount the tv with the help of my son. Apart from that it would cost a fortune to return so I have decided to use it for a 19" monitor instead.
So my advice is proceed with caution especially if attempting to mount larger tv's.
