This is a terrific and reasonably priced gizmo for a musician/songwriter (or writer/critic/poet/ponce - ahem). It's sturdily built in robust and classy black plastic; with a good bit of capacity; plug and play s/ware and surprisingly decent inbuilt microphones. It has a retractable, and frankly phallic, USB which enables it to mate freely with a receptive laptop. Within 10 minutes I was downloading "chart threateners" to Facebook (via free Soundcloud s/ware). This makes an excellent (MP3) supplement to a proper recording setup; or alternatively if one needs something quick, easy and intuitive to use when the muse hits. The beauty of this device compared with the others I've owned (cheaper Olympus variants) is that it's all in one highly portable package. Very highly recommended.
Excellent product April 5, 2010 M. Wilby (Birmingham, UK) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
A couple of friends have an older version of the product; I was impressed with the recording quality hence my purchase of this. Would recommend.
SONY ICD-UX200 is a State of Art!!! February 24, 2010 The Recorder 49 out of 49 found this review helpful
I own 4 Digital voice recorders:
1.Olympus VN-3100-its main disadvantage is that you cannot transfer voice files from the computer to the Recorder, there is no fast play and you can't tell how much recording time you have left, you can't tell the recording date&time from the file name.
2. Panasonic RR-US450-its main disadvantage is that the record is not very clear and there are only two degrees of fast play, the computer doesn't see the recorder as a device (you must use their program to convert to wave).
3. Safa SR-M160-its main disadvantage is that there is no hold button and it operates very easily in no purpose, the computer doesn't "see" the recorder as a device (you must have their program to convert to wave).
4 Sony ICD-UX200 is free from all the disadvantages the other recorders have- The computer recognize the recorder as a device, the voice format is MP3, it can't operate accidently, between 100% to 200% the play speed increases in 10%, between 100% to 50% the speed decreases in 5%. Every record named after the recording date&time, you can rename every file to convenient name, it is possible to divide a file, it is possible to connect by USB directly to the computer and to recharge the battery, there is very affective low cut filter and many other useful feathers.
